The team of the Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena, Universität Ulm, Leibniz-Institut für Photonische Technologien, Fraunhofer IOF, and Max Planck School of Photonics demonstrate atomically sharp transitions of two types of semiconducting 2D crystals. They use them to demonstrate atom-scale optoelectronic devices, such as LEDs and photodetectors.
