- presented during the PHOTONICS DAYS 2018 in Jena

On September 18, the Fraunhofer IOF's "Applied Photonics Award", endowed with a total of 11,250 euros, was presented. It honors particularly outstanding final theses in the field of applied photonics. It was awarded by the Thuringian Minister of Economics and Science, Wolfgang Tiefensee, in front of around 100 invited guests in the Jena Volksbad.

The Applied Photonics Award was presented with the kind support of the Stiftung für Technologie, Innovation und Forschung Thüringen (STIFT), the Verein Deutscher Ingenieure (VDI) and the companies Trumpf, Jenoptik, Bosch, SCHOTT and Active Fiber Systems.
Among this year's winners of the Applied Photonics Award were two IAP colleagues:
In the dissertation category (5000 €), Stefan Heist won with his topic "High-speed 3D shape measurement using aperiodic sinusoidal patterns".
And in an extra category, the STIFT Special Prize went to Markus Gräfe for his dissertation on "Integrated Photonic Quantum Walks in Complex Lattice Structures".
The special prize honours scientists and graduates who have written particularly innovative theses at Thuringian universities.

Congratulations!
