PhD Student awarded at ASSL Conference in Paris

Sven Breitkopf was awarded a prize of 1,000 USD for the Best Student Talk about his lecture "Non - steady-state enhancement cavities using pulse- dumping as power scaling concept of femtosecond lasers " at the conference Advanced Solid State Lasers ( ASSL), which was organized by the Optical Society of America ( OSA) in Paris at the end of 2013. Over decades, the ASSL has established to one of the most important conferences in laser physics with emphasis on the development of special and powerful laser sources.
The PhD-student of the IAP Research Group Fiber & Waveguide Lasers presented an approach for a coherent superposition of several hundred ultra -short laser pulses within an Enhancement Cavity. In such way superposed high-intensity laser pulses allow diverse applications i.e. particle acceleration, as they reach laser parameters that cannot be generated with established technologies.
