INSTITUTE OF APPLIED PHYSICS - Head of European Research Council (ERC) visited IAP Labs

Head of European Research Council (ERC) visited IAP Labs

Prof. Dr. Jean-Pierre Bourguignon, President ERC, visited among several non-university research institutions at Beutenberg also laboratories of our institute on November 5th to inform himself about the research location Jena.

After a welcoming by FSU President Prof. Dr. Walter Rosenthal, he visited the laboratories of our two ERC projects - ACOPS and MIMAS - as well as the entire area. He then visited the Hans Knöll Institute, where a round table discussion with university rectors, institute directors, ERC award winners and future applicants took place. The participants discussed the Europe-wide promotion and networking of cutting-edge research. Bourguignon was impressed by Jena's research landscape, in particular by the close integration of the university with non-university research institutes and regional high-tech companies. University President Rosenthal emphasized that the application activities for ERC programs would be further intensified. The recent success in the Excellence Strategy with the cluster "Balance of the Microverse" (here, too, the IAP is involved) offers a suitable basis for this. The internationalization programme planned there is designed entirely in the spirit of top-level research networked throughout Europe.
Also interesting: Prof. Bourguignon was accompanied by Mrs. Annelie Zapfe, who is probably known to some at our institute and now represents our Freistaat Thüringen in the EU.
