Since 01.01.2020 FastPhoton - "Ultra-wideband high-frequency driving of fiber-coupled laser diodes for polarization- and timestamp-coded single photons in quantum communication" has been started at the IAP with financial support of the Thüringer Aufbaubank, amounting 650.000 Euro.
The project is located at the Thuringian Innovation Center "InQuoSens", which is working on nanophotonic solutions for quantum light sources.

The new research group wants to develop fast electronics for single photon sources for quantum communication and the electronic activation of those, which should also be suitable under extreme conditions and miniaturized for applications in space. All this is intended to achieve secure data transmission.
A team of researchers from the IAP (Falk Eilenberger and Tobias Vogl) as well as the Fraunhofer IOF (Fabian Steinlechner) and the TU Ilmenau are now tackling this task.
