RESEARCH GROUP BLACK SILICON SOLUTIONS

The limited reserves of fossil fuels and the rising global energy demand, the EU and Germany led to anchor the development of renewable energy as an essential part of climate policy in the 21st Century. According to forecasts by the BEE (Bundesverband Erneuerbarer Energien) the proportion of the current generated electricity by photovoltaic is to increase from today about 1%  up to 7% in 2020. To achieve further expansion it is necessary to increase the efficiency of classical silicon- and thin film solar cells. The development of simple and cost-effective manufacturing process plays a central role. Just now, in the field of wafer-based photovoltaics the enormous cost pressures and the high level of international competition lead into tougher market conditions. Here, the project is applied.
