NADJA FELDE RECEIVES AWARD FOR BEST LECTURE AT THE "EUROPEAN SYMPOSIUM ON SURFACE SCIENCE" IN CAPRI, ITALY

The international conference "European Symposium on Surface Science" (21st - 23rd September 2016), which focuses on the topics of Smart Coatings & Surface Treatments, Surface Characterization and Nanotechnology & Nanomaterials, is organized by EMASST, the European Association of Material Surfaces. The main objective of the symposium was the mutual exchange of experiences in a joint discussion between scientists, experts and researchers from various fields in order to improve and promote new products and processes. Beside the efficient organization of the Symposium, there were enough opportunities to establish new contacts and to exchange new ideas made the event to be a success.

For her presentation "Advanced Roughness Analysis of Functional Nanostructures for Optical Applications", Nadja Felde, a new colleague of the IAP, got the award for the best lecture distinguished by the Conference Committee. Her lecture deals with a complex roughness analysis of functional optical surfaces. Above all, the roughness influences the functional properties, such as the extreme wetting behavior (e.g., superhydrophobia or anti-Icing). Through targeted design and the control of the roughness structures (in the nanometer range), surfaces with adjustable wetting behavior and at the same time high optical quality (minimized scattering losses) can be realized.
