Interdisciplinary ResearchGroup of the FSU, IPHT, IOF won Thuringian Research Award 2012

Thüringer Forschungspreis Angewandte Forschung_2013
Award presentation ceremony at Friedrich Schiller University on 8th February 2013

One of three categories of the Thuringian Ministry of Science (TMBWK) tendered Thuringian Research Award 2012 won the great team by Prof. Dr. Andreas Tünnermann, Prof. Dr. Jürgen Popp, Dr. Orlando Guntinas-Lichius, Prof. Dr. Andreas Stallmach and PD Dr. Bernd FM Romeike. The prize was awarded for applied research, which is endowed with 17,500 Euros. The Jena scientists from the Institute of Applied Physics of the University of Jena, Institute of Photonic Technology (IPHT), the Institute of Physical Chemistry and the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering (IOF) and the University Hospital Jena explored in close cooperation a multi-contrast imaging approach, which is the key to a powerful clinical diagnosis that requires no dyes. The quality of the new method the researchers have proven particularly in diseases such as atherosclerosis, throat or colon cancer. Since the Jena scientists have designed a new method from the start so that they can keep in the clinical routines without high costs or a lot of staff training, many patients will benefit from the multi-contrast imaging approach.

The public presentation of the Thuringian Research Award was held on 8th February 2013.
