IAP invites to the Annual Conference of the Research Network "Ultrafast Lasers" on 19th November in Jena

Ultrashort pulse laser opens up completely new possibilities to process materials that would not be possible with conventional tools .
An essential feature of ultrashort laser flashes are extremely high peak powers that can be achieved due to the strong temporal compression even with very low pulse energies. This allows a high precision material removal as well as the processing of temperature-sensitive materials without thermal damage. During the annual meeting of the nationwide research network " ultra-short pulse laser for high precision work " in Jena, current results will be presented including the use of ultrashort laser pulses as a surgical tool in ophthalmology , for high-precision machining of thin-film solar cells or carbon-fiber reinforced plastics in the automotive and aviation industry.
The Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) encourages the incorporation of the ten sub-projects with a total of 20 million euros since 2011. The primary objective of the meeting is to share experience, and to find new synergies for further development. The meeting is coordinated by S. Nolte, who has just been nominated for his own outstanding research on ultrafast laser together with the industry partners Bosch GmbH and TRUMPF GmbH & Co.KG for this year's Future Prize of the Federal President.

Around 70 partners from research institutions and industry partners are expected on Tuesday, 19th November 2013.
